An opportunity for a 7-piece group (intermediate to advanced students) to revisit an era exploring the rehearsed and spontaneous dynamics between a closeknit group of musicians. Music written and arranged by Noel Jewkes, resurrecting his 7-piece ensemble and rehearsal group from 1978–84 sponsored by the CETA Arts program during the “Carter Years.” Originals by Noel Jewkes, with fresh arrangements on standards, inspired by his fascination with Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Tad Dameron, Count Basie, Lester Young, Dexter Gordon, Coltrane, Parker and many more. The pieces will be taught and explained to the ensemble by Noel, featuring solo parts for each instrument. Instrumentation: trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax, trombone, piano, bass, drums.
