World Groove Ensemble: Caribbean

Explore the irresistibly deep grooves of Jamaica, Trinidad, and other islands of the West Indies in The Caribbean Ensemble, a course open to vocalists and instrumentalists featuring styles ranging from calypso to soca, reggae, ska, zouk, biguine, and more. Delve into music by artists such as Lord Kitchener, Calypso Rose, The Skatalites, Bob Marley, Malavoi, Kassav and others. Class members learn the cultural context and rhythmic structure of each tune. This ensemble is one of three consecutive classes comprising the World Groove Ensemble; students may enroll in any one or all three. Prerequisites: intermediate instrumental proficiency; ability to read charts and notation.
