World Groove Ensemble – New Orleans and Louisiana

This ensemble features the roots music of New Orleans, Acadiana, and Louisiana as a whole. The class emphasizes the groove and how everyone fits in together. Styles may include New Orleans R&B and funk, zydeco and Cajun, brass band, secondline, and “trad jazz.” The class may include artists such as Dr. John, The Meters, Clifton Chenier, Irma Thomas, Jon Cleary, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and Sidney Bechet. This course is part of the World Groove Ensemble series and may be taken independently of the Caribbean and African classes. All vocalists and instrumentalists welcome. Materials provided by instructor. Prerequisites: ability to read charts and notation.
