Songwriter and producer Willie Dixon was the source of the Chicago Blues. Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Bo Diddley and Little Walter all owe their success to Dixon’s trademark songs and sound on Chess Records. We’ll explore Dixon’s remarkable life and enormous catalog of songs in this class, with full rhythm section added for the last 3 classes. Prerequisites: Students must have taken Blues Funshop I or receive permission from instructor.

Featured on NPR’s “All Things Considered.” Her latest project “Wild Women of Song” (highlighting the work of women jazz and blues songwriters) has Rose touring, speaking and performing at universities and performing arts centers nation-wide, and resulted in the publication of a book on the topic.
