Percussionist Ami Molinelli discusses pandeiro technique, styles and rhythms from northeast Brazil, in addition to choro and samba. The workshop includes a detailed presentation on what rhythms to use with each style of music and also covers secondary Brazilian percussion including caxixi, triangles, tamborims and more. Pandeiros and other percussion instruments provided for those who don’t have them. No experience necessary!

Ami Molinelli is a percussionist and educator specializing in Brazilian and Latin percussion, especially the pandeiro. She is the co-leader of the Brazilian choro and jazz ensemble, Grupo Falso Baiano. Ami received her MFA from the California Institute of the Arts and is endorsed by LP (Latin Percussion)
and Rhythm Tech. Her credits include theater, television, recording and live performances with artists such as Luciana Souza, Jovino Santos-Neto, Mike Patton, George Duke, Nilson Matta, Katia Moraes, The LA Choro Ensemble, Bossalicious and the LA Symphony Orchestra.
