Beginning Bass

Overview

Learn the fundamentals of bass technique, applicable to all styles of music. Topics include:

• – Tuning
• – Getting a good sound
• – Left and right hand technique
• – Familiarity with the fingerboard
• – Music reading fundamentals
• – Introduction to walking bass lines, bossa nova, jazz waltzes and ballads
• – Equipment (basses, strings, amps)

Open to electric and upright bassists. This course serves as a preparation for the Jazz Bass course. Prerequisites: none. Students must bring a bass to class.
