Latin American Caribbean Piano I

This new hands-on course provides an introduction to the rich Latin American and Caribbean piano tradition. Students will play excerpts of classic early tunes by influential pianists and composers from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, Brazil, Jamaica, Mexico, Argentina, and other countries. Styles include contradanza,danza, calypso, tango, waltz, maxixe, choro, and more. Students will expand their rhythmic skills and vocabulary while building a strong foundation for further study of Cuban, salsa, Caribbean, or Brazilian music. Prerequisites: Intermediate reading of standard keyboard notation. Materials provided by instructor.
