Internationally renowned guitarist/composer/recording artist Mimi Fox has been named a winner in 6 consecutive Downbeat Magazine international critic’s polls and has been recognized by writers and colleagues alike as one of the most eloquent guitarists on today’s scene. In one of many feature stories, Guitar Player Magazine hailed Mimi as “a prodigious talent who has not only mastered the traditional forms but has managed to reinvigorate them.” In a further nod to Mimi’s guitar artistry, and in conjunction with Heritage Guitars’ 30th anniversary, the historic Kalamazoo guitar company has rolled out the Mimi Fox Artist Signature model.

Mimi has performed/recorded with some of the music world’s most commanding players, including fellow guitarists Charlie Byrd, Stanley Jordan, and Charlie Hunter, Grammy-nominated saxophonists Branford Marsalis, David Sanchez, Houston Person, and the late Don Lanphere, vocalists Abbey Lincoln, Diana Krall, Kevin Mahogany, and Janis Siegel (Manhattan Transfer), B3 organ masters Joey DeFrancesco, Barbara Denerlein and Dr. Lonnie Smith, and powerhouse drummer Terri Lyne Carrington. She has also performed with legends Stevie Wonder and John Sebastian and with Patty Larkin’s Vanguard Records-produced La Guitara project. Her YouTube videos have received hundreds of thousands of views.

Mimi has released 10 recordings as a leader including her most recent release, Standards, Old & New. The new CD has received universal praise: “Consummate mastery, each piece is a gem”…Grammy-nominated writer Jim Ferguson. “Mimi has mastered the art”…Jazz Guitar Society of Western Australia. “Beyond her passion and virtuosity, Fox plays with a profundity that only comes from a lifetime of devotion to one’s art”…Guitar Player Magazine.

She has played with many jazz and rock greats while garnering increasing recognition as a bandleader and gifted writer and instrumentalist. Early in her career, she toured with legendary jazz/blues organist Brother Jack McDuff, which provided an invaluable training ground. Her composing talents received attention when she won the ASCAP Gershwin Award for Music for Dance or Theatre in the mid-’90s. At this time, she also recorded and toured with Michal Urbaniak’s band Urbanator, featuring Kenny Garrett, Lenny White and Tom Browne. Getter then teamed up with writing partner Lenny White (the legendary drummer from Return To Forever), and co-wrote Urbanator’s smooth jazz hit “Hopscotch”, along with other compositions featured on White’s “Present Tense” and “Acoustic Masters” CD’s. She then received widespread exposure playing in the Saturday Night Live Band.

Her debut CD Jane received worldwide critical acclaim. See Jane Run, her 2nd CD was released in 2006 on Alternity Records, (at the time the home of Allan Holdsworth). This CD is a powerful statement, containing the classic jazz/rock anthem “the Loop”. She next recorded Secret Code a special guitar duet project with guitarist Bruce Arnold and was released in 2009 on Muse Eek. Her latest progressive jazz/rock release “three” was released in 2012 on Alternity Records and features a stellar crew of NY’s finest – Adam Holzman (Miles Davis keyboardist and currently keyboardist in Steven Wilson’s Band (from Porcupine Tree), James Genus (Saturday Night Live bass player) and Anton Fig (drummer in David Letterman’s CBS Orchestra).
