Introduction to Jazz Vocals

This course will launch you into successful performance of jazz repertoire by improving ear training, phrasing, improvisation and interpretive skills. Special emphasis on communicating with a rhythm section, finding your own appropriate key and basic transposition will be offered, along with microphone technique. Professional accompanist will be available to guide you through songs of your choice, along with a performance at end of quarter. Required materials include Approaching the Standards for Jazz Vocalists and Hear It and Sing It by Judy Niemack (both available at the CJC Bookstore). No prerequisites, open to all.
