The Jazzschool at CJC / Jazzschool – Online

The Jazzschool at CJC is the California Jazz Conservatory’s community education program, providing music education and performance opportunities for over 20 years to instrumentalists and vocalists of all ages and at all levels of ability.

The Jazzschool now offers JAZZSCHOOL – ONLINE with dozens of Classes and Workshops for adults available online for Spring 2020 starting April 6th; plus dozens of new Young Musicians Program Classes for Spring 2020 starting April 13th.

You can learn to play and improve your skills, with the same level of world-class music instruction you’ve received from Jazzschool for over 20 years, all while working from home.

All Classes begin the week of April 13th. Classes meet once a week for 8 weeks, with each Class lasting 90 minutes. The cost of each 8-week Class is $340. Specific Class meeting times and days will be determined based on the times that work best for interested students. All classes will be conducted online via teleconferencing using the ZOOM application.

 

Jazzschool – Online and on-site Jazzschool Classes are offered every quarter for beginning, intermediate and advanced instrumentalists and vocalists. Levels range from covering basic technique and instrumental skills to focusing on more advanced topics, including jazz style, harmony, improvisation and more. (no audition required; some classes require faculty approval)

  • Jazzschool Instrumental Classes provide study of a specific instrument including saxophone, piano/keyboard, guitar, bass and drums/percussion, depending on the quarter.
  • Jazzschool Vocal Classes provide an opportunity for singers at all levels to improve style and technique. Performance classes are offered in jazz, Latin, blues, R&B and pop genres. Beginners, singers returning to music, and more advanced vocalists will find opportunities appropriate for their particular interests.


Workshops
 (no audition required)
The Jazzschool offers a variety of Workshops throughout the year, available in single sessions or as a series. Whether online or on-site, Jazzschool Workshops are taught by professional artists/educators and focus on specific approaches to technical ability, theoretical concepts, improvisation, and enhancing live performance skills.

Performance Ensembles (audition required)
Note: Both Adult and Youth Ensembles have been postponed and will be reconvened when conditions allow us to resume on-site programs.

The Jazzschool offers a wide range
 of Performance Ensembles for beginning, intermediate and advanced instrumentalists and vocalists. Ensembles focus on a wide range of styles including, but not limited to, jazz, blues, funk, Afro- Caribbean and South American music.

 

Young Musicians Program
The Jazzschool Young Musicians Program offers classes for beginning, intermediate and advanced middle and high school instrumentalists and vocalists. Small groups focus on improvisation, while big bands delve into style and repertoire. Note: Young Musicians Program ensembles have been postponed and will be reconvened when conditions allow us to resume on-site programs. Camps and Intensives
Note: Most Camps and Intensives have been postponed and will be reconvened when conditions allow us to resume on-site programs. At this writing, the Summer Vocal Intensive will be offered.

Jazzschool Camps and Intensives are offered in the Spring and Summer in one and two week sessions for adult and youth instrumentalists and vocalists of all levels of ability.

You may register online, by phone (510.845.5373), fax (510.841.5373) or in person.

You may also download and print a paper application and mail it to the Jazzschool with payment enclosed.

Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be guaranteed without full payment. Students applying for courses that are full may be placed on a waiting list. The Jazzschool accepts checks (made payable to The Jazzschool), cash, VISA or MASTERCARD, American Express and Discover. Payment plans are available.
