Summer Jazz Piano Intensive

A 5-day intensive for the intermediate jazz pianist, focusing on rhythm, comping, and soloing in both piano-bass-drums jazz piano trio and solo piano formats.

Emphasis on swing feel, voicings and voice leading, and analysis of select masters’ solo transcriptions.

The program runs Monday – Friday 10am – 5pm

The week culminates with a student concert featuring all participants performing with the faculty rhythm section Friday at 7:30 pm in Rendon Hall at the California Jazz Conservatory.

Enrollment is limited to eight pianists.

Prerequisites

Pianists must have the ability to play:

  • Major and minor scales and key signatures in both treble and bass clefs
  • Major, minor, diminished and augmented triads
  • Major, dominant and minor seventh chords

Faculty:

Susan Muscarella (jazz piano/private instruction)

Bob Karty (Latin jazz piano)

Frank Martin (private instruction)

Ben Stolorow (private instruction)

 

Rhythm Section:

Jeff Denson, bass; Gerald Cleaver, drums

 

Performers:

Edward Simon, solo piano, confirmed

Horvath, trio piano with Denson and Cleaver

Refund Policy: $100 of program tuition is non-refundable until June 1st.  After that date, all tuition is non-refundable.
