Ellen Johnson


Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from San Diego State University with three decades as a recording artist, educator, songwriter, lyricist, author and publicist. Johnson has performed with Charles McPherson, Louie Bellson, Bobby McFerrin, Sheila Jordan, Roy McCurdy, Don Braden, Larry Koonse and John Stowell among others. Author of the biography Jazz Child: Portrait of Sheila Jordan and lyricist for compositions by Sonny Rollins and Charles Mingus. Served on the faculty for USD/Old Globe Theatre MFA program, Cal Poly University Pomona, the California Jazz Conservatory/Jazzschool. Teacher of cross over styles from jazz, classical, musical theater, pop, and other genres. Strong background in vocal pedagogy and vocal rehabilitation, assisting singers with difficult vocal issues. Continues to give master classes, online classes, and teaches privately.
