Jayn Pettingill
Head Librarian
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Jayn Pettingill is a saxophonist and the on air host of KCSM FM 91’s “Morning Cup of Jazz.” Her start in radio came through the esteemed Jazz radio announcer Bob Parlocha (KJAZ and WFMT). Interning as his production assistant, Jayn learned first hand the power that radio has. Bob showed her how great Jazz programming can bring historic performances into contact with newer recordings, weaving a dynamic showcase of the music’s lineage and of possibilities for its future.
As a saxophonist, Jayn’s studies included work with Frank Morgan, Anthony Braxton, Art Lande, and Ron Miles. She went on to earn a Masters degree in Jazz Pedagogy and Performance. Jayn has been active in the Bay Area music scene as a saxophonist and composer, performing with various groups and leading her own ensemble, Kaijuscope, inspired by the film music of Akira Ifukube.
