Paul Fingerote
Director of Communication
Paul Simeon Fingerote is a writer and veteran marketing professional with a 40-year international career working with major ad agencies in London, Sydney, Toronto and Los Angeles. For 18 of those years, Fingerote operated his own advertising agency in Monterey, California, serving a variety of local, regional and national clients.
From 1981 through 2015, Fingerote served as Marketing Director of the Monterey Jazz Festival, guiding the iconic event in their marketing, public relations and sponsorship efforts, from the years leading up to their 25th anniversary, through their 50th milestone and beyond.
Since 2017, he has worked with Susan Muscarella at the California Jazz Conservatory, initially as Marketing and Public Relations Director, now serving as CJC’s Director of Communication.
Fingerote is the co-author of Jazz on My Mind (McFarland Books), written in collaboration with jazz education pioneer, the late Dr. Herb Wong, and featuring many of Dr. Wong’s liner notes, articles, stories and conversations with the greats of jazz.
He also worked with Susan Muscarella and designers Poulson-Gluck on the publication of California Jazz Conservatory – A 25-Year Retrospective, acting as project manager, providing editorial and design direction.
In 1983, fulfilling a desire to teach people how to create their own successful marketing campaigns, Fingerote developed his popular “Back to Basics Hands On Marketing Workshop” which he shared with hundreds of associations, groups, corporations, businesses and individuals for over 30 years.
Achieving a life-long dream of “being on the radio,” Fingerote currently works as an on-air host for NPR’s Monterey Bay area outlet, 90.3 KAZU, in addition to continuing his work with the California Jazz Conservatory.
