Buddy Montgomery Jazz Legacy Scholarship

An annual scholarship awarded to a CJC student based on merit and need. The scholarship is offered through The Buddy Montgomery Jazz Legacy Project, which was established to revitalize legendary vibraphonist Buddy Montgomery’s efforts in promoting the jazz art form. The awardee is selected for his or her demonstrated achievements in performance and knowledge of the jazz genre.

Buddy Montgomery was a legendary, straight-ahead jazz pianist and vibraphonist.  One of the pioneers of the jazz genre, he was the youngest sibling in an incredibly talented jazz family. Buddy was the younger brother of the late, great jazz artists – guitarist, Wes Montgomery and bassist, Monk Montgomery who performed together as the “Montgomery Brothers.”

Funds received for this fund will be used to offset the cost of tuition for a conservatory student.

The Word

“John Gove is an incredible professor with extensive knowledge in jazz theory. He teaches theory how it should be taught, which is direct application to your instrument in a playing context. I’ve never taken a better theory class with such a fine professor.”
